Rosemary & Lemon Salt Scrub

Now this is the stuff.  Smells divine, has a ton of healing benefits and compared to fancy boutique body scrubs, it’s a steal price wise. But do you want to know why I love it most? Everything came out of my garden and the olive oil from down the street. Who knew one had so many beauty products right out the back door?

Rosemary & Lemon Salt Scrub

1 1/2 cups salt*
4 tablespoons of olive oil
Juice of 1-2 lemons
Zest of one lemon
2 sprigs of rosemary

*Lets start with salt. There are many different kinds of salt out there with various healing properties to them. For this recipe I recommend Epsom Salt or Magnesium Salt for the great health benefits of helping muscle and nerve function and reducing inflammation in the body. If you don’t have those lying around, rock salt or sea salt can substitute just fine.

lemon-rosemary-scrubTo start the recipe off, add salt to a large bowl and mix in the zest of one and the juice of two lemons and stir through.

Next up add 4 tablespoons of olive oil (more or less to suit you needs for moisture vs. abrasion) and mix thoroughly. Let it sit while you finely chop your rosemary leaves and combine all ingredients together into a 1/2 litre glass jar.

This rosemary and lemon salt scrub is amazing for your skin. Lemon fresh and full of vitamin C – which some also say can help to lighten dark spots on the skin. The olive olive oil has amazing benefits as well including being an anti-inflammatory, helping conditions like dermatitis and eczema, and helps with the elasticity of our skin layer working on things like stretch marks and scars. As for the rosemary, her role as an herb can help heal skin conditions and arthritis pain while the scent is invigorating to the mind…and we all know that exfoliation with a body scrub lets your skin simply glow.

Making you own body products also ensures that none of the “nasties” like sodium laurel sulphate or artificial colourings and preservatives will be absorbed by your skin. A less chemical life, is a healthier life! Given we can’t control of 90% of the chemicals that come at us in the modern world, I make it my goal to limit them in the areas I can through growing food, and begin conscious about what I put on my skin.

This post also got me thinking that I should really be sharing all the great ways I detox, refresh, energise and heal my body on a daily basis – all with things I find at home and in the garden!  So I’m going to start posting my natural remedies for things that I find beneficial to my over all health such as anti-inflammatory foods & drinks, DIY healing salts, rubs & balms, healing tea blends and the uses of herbs and organic essential oils to help you heal your body through any occasion or uplift. More to come! xo Mrs. Farm & Pretty

p.s. because this scrub is preservative free, use within a few weeks or keep in the fridge. shake before use!

Hi Anacelia! Glad you love the recipe!! She shelf life of the Rosemary and Lemon Salt Scrub is about two weeks. I keep mine in the refrigerator though and it will last much longer that way! The salt is a great preservative :)
